We are delighted to announce that England Golf and the R&A have awarded Berkhamsted Golf Club ‘Women In Golf Charter’ status, after we submitted a detailed document to them explaining our intentions to help grow female golf participation at our own beautiful golf club.
To start this process we analysed what the club is already doing on this score, and discovered that that we were already ahead of the curve in this vital aspect, when measured against many other English golf clubs.
However, you can always do more. So we have now made a wide range of exciting new commitments, and their combined effect will be to boost our female participation numbers still further, across all ages, over the next few years.
We are passionate about every one of those commitments.
From making The Berkhamsted Trophy mixed-gender, to creating a new Hewson Trophy for elite amateur junior girls, to introducing a new series of gender-neutral club competitions, to specifically targeting the crucial 35-54 Female age group for growth, we have a full list of interesting targets to hit in the next three years of golf at Berkhamsted.
Further commitments involving our successful Ladies Academy and our Junior Scholarship programme will also help us to achieve our targeted growth among female members. We are also making changes to our club governance, to ensure female representation at key levels within the club.
We look forward to welcoming all ages and genders to Berkhamsted Golf Club in the future – and of course, increasing numbers of female golfers both young and old!
We are quietly confident that you will enjoy our golf course, and our warm welcome, whoever you are.
Howard Craft, Club Manager.
